Description

I have always had a fascination with other cultures. Where I grew up, everyone was the same. I had never encountered anything different. When I left my home town to go to college, I wanted to meet as many people from other countries as I could. I have taken the most interest in Asian countries. Most of the friends that I have made in college were from Asian countries. I have had the opportunity to travel to Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. I am currently living in South Korea.
I have an interest in Japan because I have watched TV shows from Japan and they interested me. One of my favorite movies is Battle Royale and I also enjoy the Kamen Rider series very much. I have a program on my computer that allows me to watch the Japanese channel on which it airs and I never miss it. I also enjoy several other of the live action hero shows. I wanted to learn the Japanese language so I took classes in college. I have had four semesters of Japanese language study. We also learned Japanese culture in the class and I want to learn more about the culture and continue my language study. I mainly want to gain an understanding about the aspects of the culture that I do not understand.
Teaching English is something that I have had an interest in for a long time. In 2008, I volunteered as a conversation partner for my schools ESL program. I worked with a group of Japanese and Korean students on their English speaking skills. I enjoyed it very much and it was something that I seriously thought about doing after leaving college. I graduated college in December 2008. In March 2009 I took a job teaching English in Korea. My teaching contract ends in February 2010. I've had an overall good time in Korea. I enjoy teaching in elementary school. I work much better with younger children. It was my first year ever teaching and I don't speak Korean so there were a few problems. I've learned a lot and I'm ready to continue teaching. I have had some good experiences living in Korea for the past 10 months but I think it is time for a change of scenery.
I hope that you will consider me for a position. I think that this choice of work environment is exactly what I need to fulfill several of the goals that I have at once. I know that I would excel at this and I want the chance to prove it to you.
